In this years Scotsman/Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards, our very own Tom Morton has made the shortlist of 4 contending for the prestigious Environmental Award.
Tom has built one of Scotland’s leading environmental design practices, Cupar based, Arc.
Tom’s new buildings progress the agenda for affordable and healthy Eco-homes. His work on NHTT’s CaRB project, is used as a best practice model by the Energy Saving Trust. His major report on using plants to protect buildings is to be published by Historic Scotland this month.

King George V Park, Letham

On Wednesday 5th October 2011, King George V park was finally re-opened after a 3 1/2 year project to breathe some new life into a tired old park. Master of Cermonies was David Hamilton, Chair of the Community Council but the actual cutting of the ribbon was done by Cllr Andrew Arbuckle. The stars of the afternoon were however the dozens of children from the Secret Garden Playgroup and Letham Primary who joined in the fun cheering on the many people who had made the project happen.

The park now has a great range of play equipment and adult exercise machines but the highligt has to be the clay shelter that replaces the rotting wooden shelter.

This was a superb example of multi-agency and community funding coming together to make Letham a better place. Attached is the “Fairy Tale of Letham Park” which includes all the people involved in the project.

Additionally Peter Cuthbert from Angle Park deserves a special mention for his help and supply of the shelter building materials.

Dr Bike (Daves bike Shed Aberdour) will be at the Letham Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on

Saturday 8th October 1000-1200

doing FREE checks on all Letham bikes to:

check tyres and inflate if necessary;
check steering and seating;
put bike onto the workstand;
check the operation of brakes and gears and make minor adjustments.

This will get your bike safe and on the road again and ready for use on the new cycle routes currently being built around the NHTT area. For work requiring parts special Letham prices apply…

Hi Dave

DVD arrived yesterday, watched it today, found it facinating. Seeing Annie Webster brought back memories, I was one of her paper boys, used to pick up the papers from the 8am bus along with her father at the Well Tree.

Bin collection- Update

The following response has (finally) come from Fife Council..

If your bin has not been collected since before Christmas: Your can use your brown bin to store household waste and can present these bins on the next scheduled brown bin collection day and they will be emptied. Therefore the brown bin waste will not be recycled from this uplift as it will be going to landfill. This is only for households where grey bins have not been emptied since before Christmas.

However the crews are still trying to catch up with missed bins where access allows so please leave your bins out at the kerbside.

They’re Back!

As I complete the migration of content from the old Letham site to the new one one of the most missed and popular features- the historical photographs- has now been reloaded and an improved gallery facility put in place.

Please do add comments re the photos and let me know if my dates are wrong. Accesscan be got through the link on the Right had sidebar but here’s a wee taster of whats on line.
Right-click your mouse if you want to open up any of the photos in a separate window (from where you can save it/adjust/zoom in etc)

The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed..

To compliment this material I will soon be adding a video of Donald Dallas’s excellent old Letham talk. (just ironing out the technical bits just now)

With the apple season now in full swing, NHTT have purchased some apple presses for use by the community. If you would like to book the use of one, pop over to www.nhtt.org.uk and use their online booking calendar.

Letham food festival success

The Local Food Festival was an incredible success; a delightful and fun day was
enjoyed by all! Our local food producers tempted festival goers’ taste buds, Letham
Hall was full to the brim for the puppet show and teas & coffees, the hay bales went
down a treat with the kids and the drumming delighted young & old! The Local Food
Group wish to thank our volunteers and participants for all their work in helping make
the festival the amazing success that it was.

There will be an informal Local Food Festival get together on Friday 2nd October at
7.30pm in Letham Hall – BYOB & nibbles – we will be providing a keg of local ale for
those who like a beer! We will have the opportunity to chat about the successes of the
day, whether we will do one next year and things we could do better next time.
We would like to extend an invite to ALL volunteers, participants & festival goers to
come along to the meeting; we would be delighted to see you and plan to have an
enjoyable Friday night!
