With more than 80 lots donated by a variety of local businesses and individuals, the Letham Village Hall Silent Auction was a great success, raising over ?1000 for village hall funds. This follows hot on the heels of ‘Old Letham Night’ last month which also raised a considerable sum of money to help with the upkeep of the hall. There was a good crowd of people there, all trying to outbid each other to get the best deal on the various items. There was a very wide range of goods and services on offer including:
- sand, gravel and dung
- clothing and jewellery
- artwork and crafts
- locally produced meats and homebaking
- dog walking and babysitting
- a microlite flight and tickets for Knockhill
Lots were auctioned in batches of 10 or 20 in a hands-on, up-close-and-personal version of ebay. Buyers tried to sneakily up bids without their rivals seeing and then jostled for position beside the lots as the clock ticked towards the last few seconds of bidding! One of the most keenly fought contests was amongst the young people – for a bag of homemade doughnuts!
It was an entertaining night so thanks to the organisers and particular thanks to all the individuals and businesses who contributed items.
