Wild Swimming and Other Access at Mountcastle Quarry

Some clarity for the community regarding the situation regarding access, wild swimming and picnicing at Mountcastle Quarry, renamed as “Eden Springs” by the current tenant. The community have been enjoying access rights at this location for many years.

In Scotland, you can enjoy the outdoors on most land and inland water – as long as you act responsibly and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

Your access rights

Your rights of responsible access include things like:

  • Walking and cycling
  • Sightseeing and picnicking
  • Dog walking – provided your dog is under proper control
  • Swimming
  • Kayaking and Paddleboarding
  • Watching wildlife

You can read more about the code at

https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot

Despite what the Fishery owner will tell you, fisheries are specifically included on the list of areas where Access rights exist by virtue of Section 7 (8) of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003.

Access is a right and no charge can be raised. There is a of course a duty of responsibility in the code where you should care for the environment, respect the interests of others and be responsible for your own actions.
