We are excited and proud to present…
The Other – a collaborative music project with musicians from Scotland and those from a refugee and immigration experience. Their goal is to explore the music of different cultures and develop compositions based on the diverse ethnic backgrounds of the various international communities which have come to call Scotland home.
With support from Creative Scotland’s Creative Development fund, and the EPAD Practice Support Fund, The Other bring together eight wonderful musicians from Scotland, Iran, Chile and Brazil.
The diversity of their musical and cultural backgrounds, as well as their individual experiences, has contributed to a highly creative process and has produced some incredible music. The final outcome for the initial collaboration was a performance for The Pianodrome Sessions, recorded and filmed in their unique 100-seat amphitheatre in Granton, Edinburgh, on 29 June 2021. This was also streamed during the Refugee Festival on 17 July 2021.
The individual musicians involved each have an amazing range of work in their own right, as well a variety of projects they have contributed to over the course of their careers. The band are bring together a fantastic range of instruments including the tar (a long-necked Persian lute), daf (Persian frame drum), a whole range of Latin percussion and for the THIRD time in 2023 the magnifcent harp of Esther Swift!! Letham Nights…
Letham Nights began in December 2008. Our vision is to bring high quality music to our village hall and provide a stage for talent, both local and global. At the same time we want to promote sustainability and work towards creating a zero carbon village hall. 14 years and over 100 acts later, we have drawn in an audience which now averages 100 in our 120-capacity hall. We have supported hall improvements so that we now have double glazing, better insulation, renewed wiring and a new efficient boiler. The events are renowned for their high quality music and the unique, warm and friendly atmosphere. We really do put on THE BEST SMALL GIGS IN THE WORLD!
